The Houston Symphony goes all-American for A Star-Spangled Salute at the Miller Outdoor Theatre. Principal Pops Conductor Michael Krajewski conducts a repertoire of rousing American standards, and Simon and Garfunkel tribute artists Jonathan Beedle and A.J. Swearing perform a selection of pop hits. A saxophone quartet made up of Mitchell Brackett, Oscar Gonzalez, Zachary Martinez and Chase Skweres also perform during the concert; the Jersey Village High School students won the Houston Symphony’s 2012 Young Artist Competition.Tchaikovsky’s immortal 1812 Overture is set as the grand finale, complete with bombastic cannons. And speaking of things that explode, a fireworks presentation rounds out the evening.
