Artist Talk and Slideshow with Ron Regé, Jr.

Like many successful comic book artists, Ron Regé, Jr. is used to giving slideshow-powered readings to the public. Also like his cohorts, Regé isn't sure that's the best way to present his work to fans. The artist behind The Cartoon Utopia, an ongoing series of comics about a futuristic world, says his work is meant to be seen and not heard. "The idea of transforming it to something that you do live...really seems a little bit strange to me," he says. He'll indulge his fans today when he reads from the latest (unseen) batch of works for Utopia. "A lot of it's very esoteric stuff, and it kind of goes well with the kind of lecture I give," he says. Regé's recent talks have leaned toward the philosophical side. "[After a talk in Denmark], everyone was like, 'Wow, you're like a preacher...We didn't know we were in for a religious sermon,'" he says, adding that he hopes fans will stay tuned. "It's a new direction for me...I'm expecting to get a lot of confused questions." 8 p.m. Domy, 1709 Westheimer. For information, call 713-523-3669 or visit www.domystore.com. Free.
