Beautiful Losers

If you disagree with the establishment, then redefine it. This could be the motto for the artists chronicled in Beautiful Losers. The documentary film, screened today by AIGA Houston, chronicles legendary DIY-ers from the 1990s skate, punk, surf, hip-hop and graffiti scenes. Folks like Shepard Fairey, Aaron Rose, Barry McGee, Mike Mills and Jo Jackson created work that reflected what they saw, instead of what art buyers wanted to see. And now their work is what people want to see. These former rejects now showcase their images the world over, from advertisements to T-shirts, galleries to private collections. There’s also an AIGA social before the screening. 6:30 p.m. Domy Books, 1709 Westheimer. For information, call 713-523-3669 or visit www.domystore.com. $10 to $30.
