Best Little Whorehouse in Texas

The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is back, and so is John Holly, former executive producer of Theatre Under the Stars, here to play the cameo role of the governor — the same part he played 22 years ago. The show hasn’t been done in Houston since the early ’90s. And even though Marvin Zindler has passed on, Holly says the late newscaster always enjoyed the show and the character, Melvin P. Thorne, modeled on himself and his investigation of prostitution at La Grange’s Chicken Ranch. Holly promises the show will continue to be funny, with great dance numbers, although there’s no way to match opening night 22 years ago, when Zindler came up onstage after the show was over and showed off his baton-twirling skills. “The audience went insane,” Holly remembers. 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays.
