"Black Saturday"

Push back against Black Friday, the biggest day of the year for the retail industry, with "Black Saturday", a tribute to the late artist Bert Long Jr. Friends, family and fans are gathering at the Black Heritage Gallery (owner Robbie Lee gave Long his first show) to recall Long’s lasting legacy to the Houston art scene. Although he was an internationally known artist, Long’s greatest impact was felt locally as he encouraged and challenged members of the Houston art community to be better and do more. Dozens of artists, including Lester Marks and Solomon Kane, will have works on display. Proceeds will benefit future projects to honor Long, including an art park that’s in the works.

7 p.m. Black Heritage Gallery, 5409 Almeda. For information, call 713-529-7900. Free.
Sat., Nov. 30, 7 p.m., 2013
