Buckle Up

The Houston Black Film Festival is endorsed by the office of Mayor Pro Tempore Carol Alvarado, which of course means that just by attending you get a $50,000 bonus. We kid! Today's screening features Buckle Boys, a documentary on black cowboys, which starts at 3:40 p.m. (No word if things go Brokeback.) Also showing, at 3 p.m., is Antoine Fuqua's Bastards of the Party: The De-Evolution of Bangin', a gripping examination of 50 years of gang violence in Southern California. The festival features more film offerings, a panel on breaking into Hollywood, and guest appearances by many of the actors and actresses in the films. Screenings and panels run today through Sunday. Prices vary; see web site for information and show times.
