bull-jeans stories

The character at the center of bull-jean stories is a bull-dagga, an ultra-masculine lesbian. Dallas performer Q-Roc plays bull jean and nine other characters living in the 1920s rural South. Their stories detail life authentically lived under extreme oppression, with humor, love and hope. An adaptation of Sharon Bridgforth’s book by the same name, bull-jean stories features performance art, clips of various documentary interviews with several generations of bull-daggas, and visual art provided by Houston’s own Lovia Olivia, who also identifies as a masculine woman. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. DiverseWorks, 1117 East Freeway. For information, call 713-223-8346 or visit www.diverseworks.org. Pay-what-you-can to $25.
Oct. 20-22, 7:30 p.m., 2011
