Cantare Houston

Since carolers don’t come door to door anymore, anyone who wants some good holiday music has to venture out to find it. Cantare Houston is bringing the sounds of Christmas to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston with today’s concert Home. On the program are hymns and carols that celebrate the season, reminding us that hope, family and goodwill — everything that’s so easy to forget while you’re elbowing your way through the mall — are really what the season’s about. But don’t expect silly pop versions of Christmas tunes. This choir is a collection of serious singers directed by Kevin Riehle, a man who’s conducted at Carnegie Hall more than once. His choir has a rich, complex sound that you won’t find on any drugstore CD. To make the experience truly enchanting, the performance is set in one of the Museum’s European galleries, amid Baroque master paintings. Now that’s downright heavenly. 7:30 p.m. December 15 to 18. 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 281-649-3479 or visit $18 to $25.
