He's one of those stand-up-comic-turned-comic-actor types, like Bill Murray but not quite as recognizable. So when audience members less familiar with him sit down to enjoy Cocktails with Larry Miller and Friends at The Grand 1894 Opera House, they'll likely say, ''Oh yes, he was in…'' and then fill in the blank with any number of the myriad screen credits Miller has accumulated over the years, like Pretty Woman, The Princess Diaries, Desperate Housewives, Seinfeld, Law & Order or Boston Legal.
Ironically enough, the notoriously cerebral storyteller/stand-up is recovering from a serious head injury received in a fall earlier this year, which landed him in a coma but obviously hasn't slowed his wit. Perhaps that's where the ''Cocktails with…'' part comes in. Given the title of this show, expect Miller to likely revisit one of his signature bits, the brilliant ''Five Levels of Drinking.'' ''I don't mind going to that board meeting looking like Keith Richards'' is emblematic of one of those levels, Miller says. With comedians Pat Hazell and Houston Laff Stop grad Mike MacRae playing the ''and Friends.''
