Country Gravy & Other Obsessions

They’re back — and we’re damned glad about it. Mavis Applebee and her best bud Myrtle McGillicurdle will once again be performing their musical relationship seminar, Country Gravy & Other Obsessions. The two-person cast of this silly songfest includes Houston singers Julia Kay Laskowski and Patricia Rabaza, who also created the show. Together, they render advice in song with tunes like “Swingin’ with the Change” and “French Fry on the Floorboard.” They also ask some hard questions of the audience — including “Do you folks have relations with your bodies?” — and talk and talk about food. And it’s all done on a simple set with fold-out chairs and a whiteboard.

This show is a fun romp, and it offers a chance to see two of Houston’s most beloved actors at their funniest. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 5 p.m. January 29. Through January 29. Theatre LaB, 1706 Alamo. For information, call 713‑868‑7516 or visit $25.
Fridays, Saturdays; Sun., Jan. 29. Starts: Jan. 13. Continues through Jan. 28, 2012
