Dance Days

The term “up close and personal” isn’t used to describe most dance programs, but it perfectly captures Circle of Perpetual Apparition, Suchu Dance’s contribution to today’s Dance Days at Discovery Green 2012. The piece, still a work in progress, has the audience sitting onstage in a circle, with the dancers moving through and around them. Choreographed by Suchu’s Jennifer Wood, Circle is an energetic contemporary work. There’s no story line, says Wood, just ideas about movement, including a child’s version of a hula dance.

The piece features some colorful costumes, tops and pants in bright red and blue, and what Wood calls highlighter-yellow. Wood reports that, looking at themselves wearing the neon-yellow outfits, the company members shook their heads and said, “Only for you, Jennifer, only for you.”

Dance Days at Discovery Green 2012 also features a performance by Earthen Vessels (The Sandra Organ Dance Company). 7:30 p.m. Discovery Green, 1500 McKinney. For information, call 713-224-3262 or visit Free.
