We all know Yankee Doodle as the guy who stuck a feather in his cap and called it macaroni. In the 1942 movie Yankee Doodle Dandy, however, there's nary a man riding to town on a pony. Instead, the highly decorated (by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, that is) movie is a toe-tapping, patriotic biopic of early-20th-century vaudeville composer George M. Cohan -- allegedly born on July 4. Though you may not know Cohan, you will recognize some of his hits, such as "You're a Grand Old Flag" and "Give My Regards to Broadway," featured in the movie, which concludes Miller Outdoor Theatre's three-day Classic Film Series when it screens at 8:45 p.m.
