MECA's Day of the Dead Festival: Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Future kicks off on Friday night with a calavera (skeleton) fashion show presenting holiday-inspired looks from designers at the Art Institute of Houston, all set to the sounds of DJ Joe B. Saturday and Sunday will be all about the musical and dance performances, by groups including Solera Flamenco, the Bella Donna belly dancers, and MECA's own Mariachi and Folkloric Ballet. Between performances you can browse the colorful altars created by artists honoring loved ones or popular historical figures. 7 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. 1900 Kane.
