Shina Rae's recent fashion show was literally hot. Like, the A/C must have been broken. But appropriately, the clothes were pretty smoking as well. Full of fun, bright, and exuberant ultra-mini skirts and dresses, the show was a triumph for Rae, a veteran of Houston fashion. There was even a sequined romper for be-dazzled hipsters.
Rae's materials and patterns often come from her mother's and friend's closets. She reworks and transforms them by adding fresh material from the garment districts in Los Angeles and New York City. At such a trendy eco-friendly time, it's refreshing to see a designer that has been eco-conscious from the beginning.
The party-with-a-fashion-show, held in a private gallery on Nance St., included appearances by JaJo Couture and fashion designer Gin Martini, and ended with a true Sonia Rykiel-party feel. Sadly, we must report that Rae is relocating to Los Angeles, where no doubt she'll thrive, but we know we'll see her back next year with a new collection for the first ever Houston Fashion Week.
