You can call them crayfish, crawdads, mudbugs or — if you want to get all science-nerdy — members of the superfamilies Astacoidea and Parastacoidea. The critters (cleaned and cooked, of course) will be the stars at the Fourth Annual Kemah Crawfish Festival. The delectable delights will be seasoned and simmered in the festival’s new cooking units, which organizers claim will be able to produce 6,000 pounds of crawfish an hour. Buckets of crawfish go for $3.50 a pound, with other dining and drinking (and drinking and drinking…) options available. The festival also features live music with bands running the gamut from zydeco (T-Broussard and the Zydeco Steppers, Zydeco Dots), reggae (Irie Time) and classic rock/blues (The Relics, Pee Wee Bowen Band). National Cajun music artist (and Louisiana native) Wayne Toups headlines.
