Gallery Scene: Opening This Week
This Thursday, the much-anticipated "Bayou City Noir" opens at the Museum of Printing History, and we've got a pair of recommendations each for Friday and Saturday.
Bayou City Noir: The Photographs of Marvin Zindler In the early '50s, when Houston was the nation's murder capital, famous Houstonian Marvin Zindler was a freelance photographer. This exhibit, organized by Houston Chronicle copy editor John Gonzales (who stumbled across the photos while researching a topic for his Bayou City History blog), presents some of the white-haired newsman's most arresting crime-related photos. The bulk of the images on display were found in the Houston Public Library archives, and the Zindler family contributed some additional items - including some tear sheets Marvin had saved from his freelancing days. Approximately 50 photos comprise the exhibition. Opening reception Thursday, March 24, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., The Museum of Printing History, 1324 West Clay Street. 713-522-4652.
