Go West, Young Woman

More than just your favorite chicken dish, King Ranch is a dusty Texas spot -- larger than the state of Rhode Island, in fact -- where myths and legends of the American West once thrived. That bygone era has been immortalized in "Two Women Look West: Photographs of King Ranch by Helen C. Kleberg and Toni Frissell." The exhibit contains more than 75 black-and-white and color photographs from the 1930s through the 1960s, from two unique points of view. Kleberg, a noted amateur photographer and the wife of King Ranch general manager Robert J. Kleburg, snapped the intimate, realistic everyday life on the ranch. New York fashion photographer and photojournalist Frissell, on the other hand, took a more glamorous and romantic look at the ranch and its many celebrity visitors.
