Hobson’s Choice

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s film division continues its centenary homage to director David Lean with the 1953 movie Hobson’s Choice. Set in 1890s England, Choice is the story of a bootmaker (Charles Laughton in an excellent performance) who wants to pick out a suitable husband for his daughter. (Sure, that’s going to happen.) Instead, the young woman marries her father’s shop assistant and the couple starts a boot shop of their own to rival his. See just how happy that makes Daddy at 7 p.m. today and 5 p.m. tomorrow. 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.mfah.org/film. $6 to $7.
Sat., April 11, 7 p.m.; Sun., April 12, 5 p.m., 2009
