This week the first trailer for the Wachowski gang's film version of David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas hit the Web, and it's full of CGI, time-jumping, clouds, atlases, Tom Hanks, and Jim Broadbent-starring glossy goodness. Directed by Tom Tykwer and the brother-sister Matrix team of Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, the film is sure to be one of the most stunning of the coming fall movie season, hitting October 26.
It also looks like it could be a three-hour monstrosity (it actually only tops out at 164 minutes), but at least we get to see Hanks and Halle Berry suck face. Hanks as some sort of freaky John Travolta-looking gangster is off-putting, too. Did I mention the sweet, sweet, grandmotherly hotness of Susan Sarandon thrown in the mix?

But with the Wachowskis at work, it could be an Oscar contender if the sci-fi mythology sticks to everyone's ribs. I mean, at least it's not Speed Racer.
Big kudos to Hanks for switching shit up and taking some chances at this point in his career, when he could be playing grandfathers and historical figures. I just realized that Forrest Gump is 18 years old.
Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturges, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, Keith David and James D'Arcy round out the cast.
