Houston Children’s Festival

Most elementary school-age kids aren’t quite ready for the sights, sounds and smells of the Westheimer Block Party (“Mommy, why is that man wearing a bra?”). But there are no such worries at the always-popular Houston Children’s Festival. A total of six separate areas — including the somewhat incongruously named McDonald’s Family Fitness Zone — will host a slew of entertainment shows. Special guests this year include Keke Palmer, star of Nickelodeon’s hit show True Jackson, VP, and WWE wrestling stars Matt Hardy and Layla (who will hopefully wear one of her sexy outfits for the dads). Preteen heartthrob Diego and his cousin Dora the Explorer will also be on hand, along with Clive Berkman, “The Chef Dude,” and Sid the Science Kid. 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Sam Houston Park, 1100 Bagby. For information, e-mail [email protected] or visit www.houstonchildrensfestival.com. $8.
Sat., April 4, 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m.; Sun., April 5, 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m., 2009

KEEP THE HOUSTON PRESS FREE... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
Bob Ruggiero has been writing about music, books, visual arts and entertainment for the Houston Press since 1997, with an emphasis on classic rock.
