Get a sneak peek at one of the year's biggest local art happenings at the official 2013 Houston Press Artopia Preview Party. Eleven local artists will have their works on display, including photographers, visual artists, graphic designers and painters. One of the artists, Matthew Gantt, works in ''constellationism,'' a technique he developed in which he randomly throws ink onto a folded sheet of paper until he sees an image emerge, after which he enhances it by connecting dots, filling in gaps and shading. ''Because the subject matter is not predetermined, I am always surprised and intrigued by the images that come to form,'' he says on his Web site. ''Whereas ancient civilizations found forms in the night sky and attributed their heroes to them, I create constellations in the stars that occupy my own … subconscious.''
