Idina Menzel

It’s been an impressive ride for singer/actor -Idina Menzel — she made her Broadway debut in 1996 as Maureen in the original production of Rent, which snagged her a Tony nomination. Seven years later, Menzel took home a Tony for her portrayal as Elphaba in the musical Wicked. And lately, fans have seen her in the television series Glee.

Today Menzel makes her debut with the Houston Symphony. Expect to hear soaring renditions of Rent’s “No Day But Today” and Wicked’s “Defying Gravity,” along with a few surprises (such as Willie Nelson’s “You Were Always on My Mind”). And yes, she’ll chat up the audience with Glee gossip and Broadway backstage stories. 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-224-7575 or visit $35 to $139.
