Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park, the story of a dinosaur nature reserve gone amok, was meant to be a “don’t mess with Mother Nature because payback is a bitch” cautionary tale. But most people were too busy screaming every time a huge dinosaur bit somebody in half to notice. The film features Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum and Laura Dern as brainiacs sent to inspect a park that’s a sort of demented petting zoo, with genetically engineered live dinosaurs as the attractions. Richard Attenborough appears as the park’s founder, and Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazzello as his grandkids (it’s Richards who utters the famous “meat-a-saurus” line).

The film, based on the book by Michael Crichton, is one of the top-grossing movies ever (yes, ever). That’s not a surprise; director Steven Spielberg packed in plenty of squeal-worthy surprises, close calls and “run!” moments for two hours of jump-out-of-your-seat fun. 11:55 p.m. today and tomorrow. River Oaks Theatre, 2009 West Gray. For tickets and information, call 713–866–8881 or visit www.landmarktheatres.com. $6 to $9.
