Katherine Howe: The House of Velvet and Glass

Former Houstonian Katherine Howe talks about her new book, The House of Velvet and Glass, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston today, but it won't be your usual book reading. Instead of just talking about the novel, which follows a young woman in Boston in the early 20th century, Howe, who is trained as an art historian, will discuss the trappings of the world her characters inhabit -- the culture and, most importantly, the art, that surrounded her characters. The talk is timed to coincide with “American Made: 250 Years of American Art at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.” Items from the exhibit will illustrate her talk. 6:30 p.m. 1001 Bissonnet.
