King Crimson's Heir

Genesis, Yes and King Crimson are perhaps the best-known progressive rock bands of the 20th century, but who is still kicking out the tech-jams in the 21st century? The U.K. has Porcupine Tree, while here in the U.S., we've got Portland, Oregon-based Danava. Unlike their British contemporaries, Danava doesn't delve into unnecessary noodling on effect pedals. Instead, the long-haired quartet plots tightly constructed arrangements and concise guitar solos reminiscent of space rock pioneers Hawkwind. They even dabble with glam rock à la T. Rex. Since forming in 2003, Danava has released a few demos displaying a rough, timeless quality, and they recently signed with versatile indie label Kemado. Catch them tonight at Walter's, following a set by Wires on Fire.
