The first in the Four French Films: The New Wave, Clouzot and Romy film series, Le combat dans l' le, proves that just like everything else, love is all about politics. A protégé of Louis Malle, first-time director Alain Cavalier creates a love triangle between Clément, an inexperienced terrorist (played by Jean-Louis Trintignant), Anne, his wife, (Romy Schneider) and his political ideals. After proving himself inept at his chosen profession, Clément goes on the run with his wife. A pacifist friend (Henri Serre) takes them in and Clément soon abandons Anne in favor of pursuing his political agenda. This creates a new triangle, between the enamored Anne and Paul and the absent Clément. 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. Sunday. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet.
