Think of Michael Jackson: The IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque du Soleil as the show that Jackson wasn’t able to do. It pays homage to Jackson’s body of work and asks “what if” about the show he was rehearsing at the time of his death. Acrobats, dancers, aerial artists and contortionists perform to an enhanced soundtrack of Jackson’s music, while videos and pyrotechnics add to the spectacle. (Think a dozen dancers in Jackson-like garb doing his famous lean, while sparks fly and the music booms.) Jackson appears via videos, including one of him as a child singing “I’ll Be There.”
IMMORTAL is written and directed by Jamie King, a former Jackson associate. Via press materials, King says, “Everything that I’ve been able to experience being next to Michael Jackson onstage…I’m taking that…and inserting that into the show in every way I can.” 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday.
