Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood

This year, Books on the Bayou is featuring Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi, a descendent of Persian royalty. Satrapi's graphic novel details her youth in Iran during the Islamic Revolution, recounting how teens manage to get their hands on Michael Jackson albums and Iron Maiden posters under the watchful eyes of the religious police. Later, Satrapi moves away from her parents and the country, spending time with racist Catholic nuns, eight fabulous men and a dog that poos on her bed once a week. Books on the Bayou celebrations continue through the end of the month, including today's screening of the film based on the book at 6:30 p.m. Scenic Woods Regional Library, 10677 Homestead Road.
