Poison Pen Reading Series

The monthly Poison Pen Reading Series offers the best place to see a mix of up-and-coming and well-seasoned local writers. With three books of poetry under her belt, Susan Wood can definitely be filed under the latter. A staple in the Rice University English department, Wood has also had poems selected for Best American Poetry in 2000 and 2006 and has been published in The New Yorker, Gulf Coast and The New England Review. Hear what she’s been working on lately after readings from fellow poet Sasha West and fiction writer (and Houston Press contributor) Sophie Rosenblum. 8:30 p.m. Poison Girl, 1641 Westheimer. KEEP THE HOUSTON PRESS FREE... Since we started the Houston Press, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Houston, and we'd like to keep it that way. With local media under siege, it's more important than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" program, allowing us to keep offering readers access to our incisive coverage of local news, food and culture with no paywalls.
