"Rain or Shine: How Houston Developed Space City Baseball"

Think the Astros were the first team to bring baseball glory to Houston? Or maybe it was the short-lived Colt 45s? Think again. The game can be traced back to Civil War times, and in the 1860s, the Houston Base Ball Club was already scoring runs for the hometown crowd. You can learn all about the history of our love affair with the sport that's called America's pastime at "Rain or Shine: How Houston Developed Space City Baseball." The Texas Baseball Hall of Fame, the Houston Astros and a host of other organizations and individuals have lent artifacts and memorabilia to the exhibit for a look at the game from a fan's point of view. As part of the exhibit's related event schedule, photographer Michael Hart discusses his art book Biggio: The Final Game, which captures the excitement of September 30, 2007. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. Heritage Society Museum, 1100 Bagby. For information, call 713-655-1912 or visit www.heritagesociety.org. Free.
