Socially Conscious Company Earthredz Launches With a Pop-Up Shop in West Ave

Socially conscious companies are popping up all over the fashion landscape. Some are dedicated to green products, others to clean manufacturing, and many have a charitable component - whether domestic or abroad. I had the pleasure of discovering a company that does all of the above and my new go to purse for festival season.

Mercedes Monasterio, Kalpana Peck, and Vandana Prakash wanted to create an accessories company that made wonderfully unique pieces through environmentally and ethically sound practices and gives back to the world from which it came. A few brainstorming sessions and cups of chai tea later, Earthredz was born.

The three friends have been working tirelessly since 2013 to bring their vision into reality and were on hand this weekend to celebrate with family, friends, and dedicated supporters in their West Ave pop-up shop.

The gorgeous clutches and totes in suede and silks from recycled saris were beautiful, but it was the natural fiber purse line that attracted most of the partygoers' attention. Made of banana fibers and crafted by women in India through an ancient weaving process that can take up to two weeks to complete, the one-of-a-kind handbags were the must see of the line. The founding trio dream up the designs, but the magic is in the fingers of the women in rural India that produce the pieces. Through their partnership, the ladies of Earthredz are supporting the entrepreneurial efforts of these women, their families, and the community as a whole.
