The holy terrors known as the Herdman children put their own spin on the holidays in
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, produced by Main Street Theater. The kids — who can’t be put in jail for their various offenses because, ah, they burned the jail down — mistakenly end up at the local church during rehearsals for the annual Christmas pageant. The dull, boring annual Christmas pageant. Herdmans to the rescue. Let’s change the title to
Revenge in Bethlehem, suggests Gladys, the smallest Herdman. Let’s beat up Herod, suggests one of her troublesome brothers. It sorta goes downhill from there. Just when the pageant seems doomed, the charitable spirit of Christmas sneaks in and saves the day. Who cares if the Herdmans shout, “Shazzzzzam” instead of “Amen” — this is the best Christmas pageant ever.
