The Color Purple

It started off as a Pulitzer Prizewinning book. Then it became an Oscar-nominated movie. Then it became a Broadway musical. Now The Color Purple is coming to Houston, with Grammy Award winning singer — and Texas native — Jennifer Holliday in the cast. The musical follows the book’s basic plot: Two sisters, Celie and Nettie, are forcibly separated as young girls. Celie leads a harsh, cruel life in the American South, while Nettie lives as a missionary in Africa. Suffering incredible abuse at the hands of her husband, Celie eventually overcomes her situation through the strength o her spirit. Finally, the two sisters are reunited.
