On Thursday evening, October 20, The Little Bird Consignment Boutique held its grand opening party. Houston's "newest nest" for high-end designer fashions, The Little Bird specializes in consignment vintage couture as well as new women's clothes, accessories, handbags and shoes. On opening night a portion of all proceeds were donated to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center; owner Keele Loyd was successfully treated for cancer at M.D. Anderson a few years ago, and this was her way of giving back and saying thank you for all that they did for her.
We had to swing by and check out this fabulous new addition to the Houston shopping scene, and what we found was truly delightful.
The party was in full swing by 7 p.m., with waiters delivering wine, champagne and delicate bites for shoppers poring over lovely frocks with labels from Jimmy Choo to Valentino. At least a dozen Chanel jackets and suits were on display, and rows and rows of shoes from Prada, Manolo Blahnik and Dior, to name a few. It was hard to remember to take photos, there was so much for fashion lovers to look at and delight in. Shoppers were in ecstasy as each new treasure revealed itself. The vibe was laid-back and casual, and all of the sales staff were friendly and helpful; a few had flown in from Aspen, where the original boutique is located, to help out their friend Keele with her big new adventure.
We had the chance to chat briefly with Keele, who was the belle of the ball -- even her parents had flown in for the grand opening -- and she enthused over her new city. "I was treated at M.D. Anderson -- I'm fine now, doing great -- and fell in love with Houston. I saw a niche for a place like this, and knew this was my chance."
The Little Bird has all the charm of a consignment shop, but with the sleek, upscale feeling of a high-end boutique. It's the perfect blend of chic and casual, and we can't wait to return. After all, we need a blouse to go with the incredible Max Mara pencil skirt we took home.
The Little Bird is located at 1735 Post Oak Boulevard. Store hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
