The Mystery Plays

According to fans, playwright, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, is a comic-book geek-slash-genius. The man behind The Mystery Plays, being presented here by the Rice Players, writes for Marvel comics, wrote for the HBO drama Big Love, was play doctor for Broadway’s Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark and writes/co-produces television's Glee. He's also written the book for a musical based on American Psycho, to open in London this fall. The Mystery Plays, which won the Roger L. Stevens award from the Kennedy Center, are two one-act plays, separate but linked. The first deals with the guilt of the sole survivor of a train crash and the second explores a brutal family tragedy - dark indeed, but then again when were action heroes light-hearted? Mystery Plays director, Susannah Eig, tells us, ''The Rice Players went though lots of plays looking for one that was dark and exciting, but not so dark or esoteric that it turned people off, and The Mystery Plays fit the bill perfectly.''
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: Feb. 7. Continues through Feb. 16, 2013
