When hes not garnering Grammy nominations as a music producer, John Congleton is creating some creepy rock and roll. The Texas native, who has worked with the likes of The Mountain Goats, Modest Mouse, The Roots and Celine Dion, fronts The pAper chAse, a quartet from Dallas with a sinister sound. Its like Alfred Hitchcock meets Weezer. Striking pianos, jarring guitar riffs and other odd sound effects (such as creaking doors and cranks) back oddly catchy rock tunes, all led by Congletons strained and screaming vocals. These songs would play as comfortably in a concert venue as they would a haunted house. Boo! 8 p.m. Walters, 4215 Washington. For tickets and information, call 713-862-2513 or visit www.4215washington.com. $8 to $10.
