There's Something in the Water: 5 Great Movies About Aquatic Killers
Around 67 million people went to see Jaws on its opening weekend in 1965, making it the first-ever summer blockbuster. Within 78 days, it became the highest grossing film of all time, but was still playing on fewer than a thousand screens.
There's a simple reason for that. It is a great film. Even those not inclined to thrillers or gore fests or the National Geographic Channel can appreciate the subtle tension between Hooper and Quint, the conflict between Brody and Amity's officials and, as dated as they are, the special effects (yeah, the shark looks fake, but we rarely even see it and when we do, it's a lot better than those stupid dolphins from Jaws 3-D).
Houston has a chance to see Jaws on the big screen again on July 13 at Market Square Park, courtesy of Alamo Drafthouse. We put together a list of the other water-animals-killing-people movies to get you in the mood.
