Throwback Thursday

Many people know Spring Street Studios is where you go to watch theater offerings from Stark Naked Theatre Company and Mildred’s Umbrella and that it is filled with visual arts studios as well. This Thursday, Spring Street Studios is hosting its first ever Throwback Thursday to celebrate both theater companies’ upcoming seasons and to also highlight the other building occupants. “We have a lot of artists, but we also have some businesses in the building,” says Stark Naked’s co-founder, Kim Tobin-Lehl. Sponsored in part by the Houston Press, the event will also highlight a bicycle tour company, a yoga studio and a paper company. “We’re going to open the floor for dancing. Saint Arnold’s [another sponsor] is going to come out and serve beer to the public. Jennifer [Decker, artistic director at Mildred’s] and I are going to host a contest. We’ll dress up six different actors in different periods of time, in costumes and have them walking through the building with numbers on their back. People can fill out a form and guess, and we’ll give out free tickets to our season,” Tobin-Lehl says.

It all starts at Studio 101 on the ground floor of Spring Street Studios, 1824 Spring Street. 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. For information, visit starknakedtheatre.com or mildredsumbrella.com. Free.
Thu., July 24, 5-9 p.m., 2014
