Tons o' Tonk

Hot rods and honky tonk go together like cold beer and barbeque, all of which will be consumed in copious quantities as gearheads from far and wide descend on the Honky Tonk & Hot Rod Music Festival. Those who love chrome and steel should find plenty to gawk at as Jim Jard, one of the most serious hot rod collectors in the country, will have several cars on display. The event is produced and will be headlined by Jesse Dayton, who will be playing both with the Jesse Dayton Band and the Road Kings. Since leaving L.A. for Austin, Dayton has been the driving force behind what critics have dubbed turbo-country, a style that borrows dynamics from rock and punk. Explosive Houston homies Los Skarnales are mixed among musical acts that range from Lafayette psychedelic swamp rocker C.C. Adcock to the revived and revved Houston roots rockers Two Hoots and a Holler. For the first time in public, the Jesse Dayton Band will play all the tracks from their wildly successful Rob Zombie movie tie-in album, Banjo and Sullivan Tribute. With over-the-top titles like "I'm Home Getting Hammered While She's Out Getting Nailed," "Lord, Don't Let Me Die in a Cheap Motel," and "I Don't Give a Truck," this set promises to be a winner among both gearheads and music lovers. $20.
