If you're sick of the lame comedies and regurgitated superhero franchises that make up the summer movie season, duck into the Aurora Picture Show for the
Dusk 'Til Dawn Film Fest. The event features independent films from across the globe -- and plenty of them. Today, 15 films, ranging from three to 60 minutes, are scheduled to screen between the festival's 7:15 p.m. start and 11:25 p.m. close (which does make us wonder about the "'Til Dawn" part).
But even at an art theater like Aurora, it seems films and comic books must intermingle this time of year. Today's show includes the U.S. debut of the Canadian Because You Demanded It! Directed by Sarah Crauder, a short-ish film featuring two hapless comic shop employees who try to prove that the comic book formula for love works in real life by setting up two customers. And our parents worried that following comic book logic would make us jump off rooftops like Superman or light ourselves on fire à la the Human Torch! Festival runs Friday and today.
Fri., July 21, 7 p.m.; Sat., July 22, 7 p.m.
