Helen Little might not be a widely recognized name in the local art scene, but chances are it soon will be. A sophomore at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, Little contributed her Photoshop piece Fields of Fruit, shown above, to the juried exhibit "Collections: Annual HSPVA Juried Show" currently at the Jung Center. (By the way, the title Fields of Fruit is literal; if you look closely, you'll notice that what seem to be green hills are, in fact, fat watermelons.)
Although now in its fifth year, the show was almost canceled. Three student organizers had previously worked on the exhibit, but (OMG) two of them dropped out of the project this spring. Drama! That's when the third student organizer, Catarina Williams, stepped up to the plate. "I thought, 'We can't not have a show! I guess I'll have to do it.' Otherwise no show would happen and I didn't want that," she tells Art Attack.
Viewing hours at the Jung Gallery are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Through August 29. 5200 Montrose. For information, call 713-524-8253 or visit www.cgjunghouston.org. Free.
