When it comes to stuff-your-face gluttony, no one does it better than the Asian-inspired all-you-can-eat buffet at V Star. Located in a strip mall just off of I-45, this place almost literally has it all. A fruit bar, salad makings, a soup station and a seafood bar overflowing with oysters on the half shell, shrimp, king crab legs and spicy crawfish get your engine revved. Next, choose from more than a dozen types of sushi before ambling over to the two long buffet carts continuously refilled with more than 30 entrées. Selections range from fried chicken wings and pizza to typical Chinese fare you'd expect to see at a buffet, such as General Tso's chicken, Szechuan beef, egg foo young and lo mein. Oh, and don't forget dessert. While gluttony can quickly turn to sloth, diners will feel light and virtuous having paid only $9.25 for this belly-busting treat.

The Managers do not care about the customer. Food Fine, Server fine, some jerk manager sits down at my table (plenty of empty ones all around) is the loudest of all the employees yelling from my table across the restaurant then gets on his cell phone again as loud as an F3 tornado and is yelling on the phone about how many girls he has and what he does with his girl while i'm just trying to eat quietly. After my meal I meet the Store Manager, another jerk that could care less about my sharing that I thought it was rude, obnoxious, and that it should not have happened with all the open tables. The store Manager defends the loud as hell other manager saying he can sit wherever and do whatever. Pretty crappy when they want more to argue than to keep a customer. PS I ate there twice this week already and travel to Houston Bi weekly and must therefore eat out every night M-F. They got their last damned penny from me!

I had the pleasure of joining one of my professors at this restaurant for lunch yesterday, October 7th, 2011. I witnessed a customer walk out without paying. The waitress that was serving him was very upset. One of the managers named "Kevin" proceeded towards my table, directly next to the table where the man had skipped out without paying. He called the waitress "STUPID". He said that she should have been paying better attention. I told him that, that wasnt nice and he should NEVER call a woman or anyone for that matter stupid. He responded by telling me that she was stupid and it was her fault for smiling too much at the man that left. I told him a second time, not to call her stupid! I told him that the man that skipped out handed her a credit card and said that he ws going to the restroom, and would be right back. The customer snuck out like a snake in the grass. when the waitress ran the man's credit card it was repeatedly declined. In fact, to find out later the customer had a stolen wallet that was left in the restaurant. His intentions were wrong from the moment he entered the establishment. After a short conversation with the manager, he continued to name call the waitress for a total of 4 minutes while standing at my table. During the short conversation the waitress approached the table and heard him call her stupid at least twice. I was absoluely offended on her behalf. I have NEVER seen such a thing! I was embaressed for her. She had a sad look on her face, as if almost in tears. The manager then nonverbally bullied her to a corner, and proceedded telling her that he was just playing and that she should tell me that he was playing with her. When she returned to the table I told him and her that even if he was playing, which he wasn't, that he should not have had the conversation in front of another customer in the restaurant (me). I told the young lady that she should never let anyone no matter who it is ever disrespect her in that manner. I told the manager, "Kevin" that he was completely out of line for making such a comment in the work environment, especially being in his position! I asked to speak with the restaurant manager and another manager, anmed "Ken", came to speak with me. Both of their name tags read manager, so I asked which one of them was in charge? They both pointed to each other. I asked who ws the general manager, neither of them said anything. I asked for the number and or address to their corporate office. Ken proceeded to give me a number that turned out to be his very own cellular phone number. I was now disgussed with the both of them. Neither of the managers were willing to give me any additional information. Moments later another manager came into the restaurant. I told her briefly the situation and asked her to give ma a number to speak with someone other than the two manager that were there. She proceeded to write down the same number that Ken had already given me that was no good and that I couldn't leave a message. I asked a few employees who was the store or general manager and no one would respond. They all looked at Ken and Kevin like they knew if they spoke up, there would be reprocussions. I have never had such an experience in a restaurant in my life. Nothing was done to me personally, but as I said before I was offended for the young waitress that was rudely called "STUPID" at least 7 to 10 times!

It's not about whining Houston Press! It's about the food! And this place was absolutely horrible! HORRIBLE! My husband and I ate here yesterday around noon. The place was PACKED and so loud we couldn't even converse. I felt like I was having lunch with the whole Houston area. The food was nothing special and the ambiance was horrible. Two buffets and 2 drinks came to $30! What a waste! I told the waitress I thought I was charged for 3 buffets she said, "That is the price for 2 buffets and a drink. Also, today is a holiday." WTF? Because we went on Washington's Birthday, they charge you more? What a rip. I will never go back and I don't recommend them to anyone! I am just floored anyone goes there at all with those prices.

I went to this place about 6 hours ago it was great but it was overpriced and the music is loud but it has identical taste as Chinese Buffet over there @ Sellers Bros but i reccomend this as 3.5 out of 5.

*** What a bunch of frickin' whiners!!! It's a buffet!! They're not going to put out filet mignon and caviar!! What a bunch of cheap idiots that think V Star is going to put the best products out there!!!

All of you whiners just need to eat at home with your Ramen noodles and freeze dried shrimp and shut up.

THIS PLACE SUCKS! I can't see what I'm eating anyway because of the "mood lighting" which is basically none. Then to top it all off, you're better going off alone since you can't enjoy a nice conversation with someone since the music is always so loud....not to mention they play weird music that has nothing to do with Chinese theme.

Food was average. Didn't see a single dumpling!! Way over priced!!

Msybe the problem is I was only supposed to eat the Sushi and Shrimp and like the sweeter taste of it. It's like 100% Taquito got the highest rating by the Fearless dude of all and then you find out he hates how the place looks and most places in Houston are like cheap and uncool and you wish you were at a cool diner or the airport looking at the planes, the people, shipping for souveneirs and hearing an oldies band with stewerdesses at the bar and then the art guys giving us an installation but ..., and Fearless isn't impressed by anything but the Torta and nothing else- so maybe this is one of those deals and I got a bad taste in my mouth from the other stuff that they use to make it look like an extensive buffet and trick you when they are trying to save money for the Sushi and stuff. Except then I cam walk to Ouishi and get past the crowds that always flow out the door- even on Monday- and sit at the bar and have the Hong Kong Chick come by and always take care of me. So you know that is always great. I remember it was like going to the Motel 6 and off the ramp and I missed it and the Donny wasn't happy but then I could be wrong about that one. They do the same thing for the awesome Texas Roadhouse in Stafford where you get to ride the horse and take home stadium peanuts and stuff. Whatever happened to the good Mongolian BBQ on Richmond? That place rocked!

There was this all you can in a movie theater in Bellaire that had about 100-200 items with teh Sushi before it was popular and heads, feet and American Hunan and no sweet stuff- it was the real deal and this is not it is trashy. BUt there were ten owners and they fought and shut down the old place. But you could tell it was great because they got a huge number of Asian and American people and different incomes and that is usually the sign you are at the real deal. The Lamb Bo by the Galleria next to Toys R Us is better than this place. All the sweet stuff that you hate. I would love a CHinese that did the clay pots like they do in San Fransisco or a really good all you can eat Mongolian make your own BBQ with the Mexican guy cooking it on the stone stove and the 5 meats, 16 vegetables, noodles and all you can eat dumplings and that great bread on the side but you know that place was in the middle of nowhere and the same regulars tanked up on it and I do mean tanked and why is it that when ever I go to the all you can they get mad and serve me the rice instead of meat but they tell the fat guys or rarther morbidly obese that they should have all meat and take lots more plate. I might have a lawsut going... anyway the V Star is not it. I will stick to Sushi until I find someone in Houston who gets Oriental right like in San Fran.

V Star definitely deserved the 2008 Best award! I'm not sure why the first 2 commentators were so disappointed, my family loves this place and it's always packed when we visit. The sushi is very fresh and full of variety, we love to eat out & we've been to plenty of chinese buffets and this one is the best by far! Not only the sushi is fresh, but everything else for that matter... and I appreciate how clean and well kept the buffet stands are, you constantly see the employees cleaning the food area and throughout the restaurant. The manager is always walking the restaurant and noticing every flaw so that he can quickly point it out to the employees. Just an overall fantastic place to eat and the prices are great.

I'm not sure about the 'Hot' entres on the buffet, but I totally have to disagree with the comments above. I am most interested in the Sushi, Shashimi, and Oysters. Compared to other buffets in town that serve those type of things, this place can't be beat!!!!! The sushi is loaded with fish, extremely tasty, and the variety is incredible!!! I always end up eating so much salmon shashimi when I go there, I must be bursting at the seams with Omega-3's, by now. Anyways, I love this place and try to make it there once a week, if possible. V-Star, keep doing what your doing, at least on the sushi side of the buffet... as for the hot food, I can't comment, because I've never had enough room in my stomach to try it, after hitting the sushi counter!

I totally agree with Miguel, I also went to this restraunt thinking it was going to be a good buffet place. But was totally dissapointed, all the food tasted the same. The food had no taste what so ever. I tought I was the only one that felt that way but I guess not. I dont know how this place could of been ranked the best buffet place in Houston.

This place has a huge buffet but it lacks taste. I have visited V Star several times thinking maybe I missed somethng in previous visit but I was wrong in thinking this. I can say without a shadow of doubt that this place is tasteless. You guys missed the mark by honoring V Star as the best all you can eat buffet for this year, this place is not even the best Chinese buffet.
