The 105 Grocery & Deli is located about eight miles southwest of Navasota on Highway 105. Former names include "DK Gen Store, Café, Meat Market, Feed Store" and "B&J." Whatever it was called, the convenience store has been making burgers for decades. The grill is closed on Monday and Tuesday and when the grill cook doesn't show up. So call before you make the trek (about an hour from Houston). The burgers are mountainous — each patty appears to be around two-thirds of a pound. (You'll want a double-meat, double-cheese.) A crunchy wedge of iceberg and two tomato slices come under the burger in the "upside down" configuration with a modest sprinkling of chopped onions and a couple of pickle slices. The white-bread bun is toasted and spread with yellow mustard and Miracle Whip salad dressing. Some burger lovers I know bring their own Hellmann's mayonnaise to replace the offending MW. But it's a tiny blemish in the otherwise perfect burger.
I was In Washington yesterday and stopped by this place. If I was a Houston restaurant owner, I would be offended. The burger was decent, but not something I would drive 86 miles for. It is clear to me now that whoever reviews the burger category must either live nearby, or is getting free food. The place is quaint in a small town kind of way, but I wasn't that impressed with the burger. The RC Cola was better.
Any burger is better than those dried out pucks they toss at Beck's. Who are the readers that chose that place? I had a Smashburger today with a side of rosemary and garlic seasoned fries, and it was tasty, mmm.
I agree with the previous posts. This place is 87.5 miles from my Houston home. It might belong in a Texas Monthly article, not a Houston Press "Best of Houston" list. Seriously, why not just widen the net to the continental U.S.?

I'm not driving to Washington to try this supposed best burger. I can just go to Beck's Prime (who got #9 on the Texas Monthly for Best Burgers in TX issue). I think that ranking in TX sets them as #1 in Houston. Stuff that in your mouth and see how it tastes.

Seriously? This place is over an hour from Houston. This is call the 'Best of Houston', not 'Best of Southeast Texas' I have to believe there is a better place to have a burger somewhere in the city of Houston.
