Best Criminal Court Judge Houston 2011 - Maria Jackson

Correction: Former State District Judge Caprice Cosper has never expressed the opinion that she has been impressed with her successor, Judge Maria Jackson. The Houston Press regrets the error. When she was elected to the 339th Criminal District Court in 2008 as part of the Obama-led Democratic sweep, Maria Jackson already had three strikes against her: She had defeated Caprice Cosper, perhaps the best liked and most respected incumbent (and former Best of Houston® Best Judge in 1999); she came from municipal court, hardly the birthplace of judicial heavyweights; and she had never spent a day as a Harris County prosecutor, a critical pedigree for anyone aspiring to a criminal bench. And so most of the cognoscenti at the Criminal Justice Center, especially those from the Chuck Rosenthal government-in-exile, thought Jackson would be in way over her head. Well, turned out they were wrong. Jackson has gone about the business of dispensing justice in a way that has even impressed Cosper, her highly regarded predecessor. Jackson runs a tight but cordial courtroom with a staff that does not have the disposition of prison guards.

Moran, yes!! Ever worked an 8 hour day in 3 years, no!! Never works to 5pm unless in trial. Lazy, yes!!! I wonder how much Houston Press got paid.... Best out of all on the bench....WOW... then we are in real trouble. Big DIVA - hates to be corrected, always wants thing done for her - watch in court, she never opens her own door, someone always brings her something to drink. Houston Press ---- you lost me with this one for sure.

BULLSHIT! Obviously the author or the Houston Press has been paid money to write an article stating this judge is "best criminal court judge." She is a horrible judge who knows less about the law than even the defendants....sad, but true. Also, sweet woman to your face, backstabbing as hell behind your back. Laziest judge I have ever met. Wants to be treated like a princess and loves anyone who kisses her ass constantly. Judge Cosper, a very experienced, highly respected judge who actually knew what the fuck she was doing, was replaced by a lazy, good-for-nothing judge like this....what a shame it was and what a slap in the face for this to be published. Judge Cosper would never be "impressed" with Jackson....where the hell did they come up with that?! PLEASE vote her off the bench as soon as possible. Houston Press....you have really failed us all this time around.

The author of this article clearly does not work within the criminal justice center. I'm a pro-Obama Democrat and I wouldn't vote for Maria Jackson. She is never on the bench at 9am. She doesn't know the law or criminal procedure. She constantly consults with other attorneys to help her make to make rulings. She has consistently handed out sentences that were not even in the proper punishment range. She has gone months without having a trial because she could not properly admonish jurors during voir dire. AND...her staff DOES have the demeanor of prison guards. Especially the bailiffs that yell at both attorneys and defendants for something as simple as walking into the well of the courtroom.

Are you fucking kidding me?!?!? She spends most of her time on the bench taking a break, can barely seat a jury panel because she's so busy busting it with her lack of knowledge of the law and constantly seeks external validation! The biggest "blessing" would be if she would step down.

Seriously? She's a complete moron. She has one of the highest dockets in the county and highest trial dockets as well. She has no idea what she is doing. She's a puppet on a string. And that's assuming she shows up for work.....

Ask her how many 8 hour days she has worked in the last three years.
