College Football Preview: Week Three
Welcome to week number three of the college football season. T.S.U.’s already gone 0-3 with a defeat last night, and T.C.U.’s now 1-2 after choking away a game to Air Force.
What many would’ve considered, three weeks ago, to be the game of the week is Notre Dame at Michigan. Hah. Both teams have opened the season 0-2, and neither team has been competitive – losing to a Division I-AA school on a blocked field goal does not competitive make. There should, however, be a good national game Saturday night when U.S.C. ventures out to Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers. Both teams are ranked and both are undefeated. Nebraska’s no longer the three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust team of yore. Coach Bill Callahan has installed the West Coast offense. So, while not as good as they used to be, there’s a decent chance the Huskers might be able to make a game of it.
A chance, but not much of one.
The Longhorns, if they can keep their players out of jail, will be in Orlando playing the University of Central Florida of Conference-USA. Speaking of Conference-USA, while the Cougar mascot may have gotten its ass kicked by the Oregon Duck, the team actually played Oregon closer than Michigan did. And the Cougars will be in New Orleans taking on winless Tulane.

The Aggies, who were barely able to handle Fresno State last week will battle UL-Monroe. Yep, that should be a real clash of the titans. But maybe Reveille’s suspension will be at an end and she can attend the game. And maybe they should introduce her to Michael Vick.
And the slaughter of the week will come courtesy of Texas Tech who will be visiting Rice Stadium and the 0-2 Rice Owls. The Owls lost to Baylor. The Owls lost badly to Baylor. And Baylor is bad. Maybe Fox Sports Net will show a little mercy and cut to another game when this gets out of hand, which should be about five minutes into the game. -- John Royal
