Roger Clemens and Steroids: Stats Don’t Prove Squat

There was more Roger Clemens news

. Rocket’s agent Randy Hendricks released an 18,000 word report seeking to rebut the allegations of steroids use. But I’ve got to be honest with you, I just can’t do it. I just can’t sit down and read the damn thing.

I just can’t. I’m just too burned out.

Besides, I’m waiting for February 13 when Clemens appears before Congress.

But I will say some things. First, just because Hendricks goes to the numbers and stats doesn’t mean that Rocket didn’t use steroids. Sure, maybe his record improved when the runs scored for him improved. But runs scored don’t disprove steroids.

Second, I’ve got to find myself agreeing with Richard Justice – yes, I can do that sometimes. The Justice theory about this report is simple: Rocket has moved from the Rafael Palmeiro B-12 shot excuse to now saying that steroids had nothing do with his stats. The next step is admitting to actual steroid use, but saying that the steroids had absolutely nothing to do with anything.

Then again, that assumption could be totally wrong.

I’m sick of this. I just want baseball to start. I just want the Astros to get back to the sucking. But I guess I’m going to have to dream on. – John Royal
