The College Football Preview, Week Four: Longhorns in Jail and Cougars with Excuses
Okay, I spent the weekmaking fun of the University of Texas
. One of my colleagues says it’s because I went to the University of Houston, thus I’m jealous. Maybe there’s some truth in what he says. Maybe I am jealous. It probably is better to have your school turnedinto a laughingstock
because its players are jailed because of home invasions and whipping up on witnesses than it is to have your school turned into a laughingstock because its mascotgot its ass kicked by the Oregon Duck
. And this ass-kicking is all over the internets and You Tube and ESPN, etc.
Well, Shasta the Cougar has gone public and given an interview to the Daily Cougar. My favorite part of this interview is the opinion of the Cougar and the interviewer that most observers think Shasta took the high road, that he came off looking like the bigger man, and that’s he got nothing of which to be ashamed, “It doesn't make UH or myself look bad.”
You made the entire university look bad.
I’m surprised they haven’t kicked him off the football team – yep, he’s a walk-on receiver. And this week, the Coogs are going up against the Colorado State Rams. This game might be in Houston, but it’s on national television – albeit CSTV – and I’m sure this guy would love to make a name for himself.
As for the football team, the 1-1 Coogs are taking on the 0-2 Rams of Colorado State at 3:30 in Robertson Stadium. I’m sure it’s going to be like a sauna, but if you can hack the heat for the Dynamo, you can surely hack it for the Coogs. The Coogs are an exciting team that scores lots of points. So this could be a fun game. There will also be the excitement of wondering who the UH QB will be, and how many times during the game the QB will change.
The 0-3 Rice Owls are journeying to Austin where the word is Travis County Police Officials have agreed to release enough players for UT to field a team. The Horns haven’t been impressive this season – maybe it’s that whole jail thing – but this could be a key test for UT. If UT can’t put up at least 50 points on Rice, while holding the Rice to single digits, the Horns are really going to be in trouble come Big 12 season.
The Aggies will be dropping out of the Top 25 after being embarrassed by the University of Miami last night. Texas Tech will be taking on Oklahoma State – the big news coming from Oklahoma State is that one of Playboy’s Girls of the Big 12 from Oklahoma State is the daughter of the baseball coach at Oklahoma. Baylor’s traveling up to New York to take on Buffalo, winless TSU’s flying out to El Paso to take on UTEP, and the Metroplex will host the enticing SMU/TCU match-up.
Nationally, the big games appear to be Penn State at Michigan, Arizona at Cal, USC hosting Washington State, Georgia visiting Alabama and the Ol’ Ball Coach taking South Carolina to Baton Rouge to take on LSU.
Enjoy the weekend everybody. – John Royal
