What the Hell. Go Texas Tech!
I hate the BCS. I hate the bowl games. I want there to be playoffs in major college football. I write this because, normally, I would be pulling for Oklahoma to defeat Texas Tech this weekend for the purpose of screwing up the BCS.
But I can’t do that this time out. I just can’t.
And I can’t because of the Texas Longhorns. I’ve made the mistake of listening to sports talk radio this week, and it’s been ugly. Nothing but Longhorn fans calling and talking about Texas and how the Longhorns really are the best team in the Big 12 and deserve to be playing for the title.
Except for one thing: They all keep forgetting that Texas Tech defeated Texas.

This weekend, the Texas Tech Red Raiders are venturing up to Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners. The number two and five ranked teams in the BCS are battling it out in this weekend’s version of the Game of the Century.
This should be a high-scoring game as Texas Tech and Oklahoma have the number one and two ranked offenses in the Big 12. And the same man is responsible for both offenses: Mike Leach, the Texas Tech coach, who was the first offensive coordinator for Bob Stoops at Oklahoma before leaving to take over at Tech.
In ten seasons under coach Bob Stoops, the Sooners are 59-2 when playing at home, and they have beaten 11 ranked teams when playing in Norman. Until this season, where they are perfect on the road, the Red Raiders have been a bit of a bust, going 13-15 on the road from 2003-07.
The signs point to Oklahoma winning this game. But the only way to shut up the arrogant Longhorn fans is for Texas Tech to win this game. So please, do me a favor, Texas Tech. Win this game and put Longhorn fan out of my misery. Because if Texas Tech loses this game, then I’m going to have to resort to Plan B for shutting up the Longhorn fans. That’s going to involve me having to pull for the Texas Aggies to win on Thanksgiving. And if there’s one team, and one set of fans, I hate more than Longhorns and their fans, it’s the Aggies and their fans.
I’m already making my sacrifice. I’m putting aside my hatred of the BCS and my love of chaos in order to pull for Texas Tech. So let’s hope for the sake of my sanity that they uphold their end of the bargain. – John Royal
