2009 Autumn Artists Concert
Most grandfathers leave their grandsons a watch or a little cash. Cellist Evan Drachman's grandfather left him a 1725 Stradivarius. (Of course, Drachman's grandfather was the legendary Russian cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, who happened to own two Stradivarii.) Drachman, who studied at both the Peabody Conservatory and the New England Conservatory, will be playing the rare instrument in today's 2009 Autumn Artists Concert along with Yale-educated and part-time New Yorker/sometime Houstonian pianist Richard Dowling. Today's program includes works by Frederic Chopin, Anton Rubinstein and Felix Mendelssohn ("his mammoth D Major Cello Sonata"). 7:30 p.m. Clear Lake Presbyterian Church, 1511 El Dorado Boulevard. For information, call 713-542-7594 or visit www.richard-dowling.com. $8 to $12.
Fri., Oct. 9, 7:30 p.m., 2009
