42nd Annual Greek Festival

Sure, Houston may not have the whitewashed windmills of Mykonos or the towering columns of Delphi, but you don’t need to pay airfare to get a heady dose of Greek culture. (The Parthenon’s covered in scaffolding right now, anyway.) Put on your best whites and blues and head for the 42nd annual Greek Festival. Everything was delayed a bit after Ike but the rescheduled Festival is packed to the hilt with events, including nightly dance performances, live Greek music and cathedral tours. And yes — don’t panic — there will be tons and tons of Greek salad, pastitsio, souvlaki, gyros, tiropita, spanakopita, stuffed grape leaves, feta, pita and all the baklava you can eat (if you make it to dessert). 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 3511 Yoakum Boulevard. For information, call 713-526-5377.or visit www.greekfestival.org. $5.
